Sell your first avatar item
List a hat in the NEO Marketplace from the Creator Hub, check it as a player would, and follow its sales and earnings.
On this page
In this tutorial you list a hat in the Marketplace, see it the way players do, and find out where its sales and earnings show up. It takes about five minutes and you don't need the Studio.
You need a NEO account (not a guest). If you don't have one yet, see Create your account.
1. Open Avatar items#
- Choose Create in the top bar to switch to the Creator Hub.
- In the hub's sidebar, choose Avatar items.
The page is titled Avatar items, with the line "You earn 40% of each sale, plus the game it sold in earns 10%." Under it is the form you use to list an item. If you haven't listed anything yet, the page says "No avatar items yet".
2. Pick a kind and a name#
- Leave Kind set to Hat. (The other choices are Shirt and Emote.)
- In Name, type
Golden Crown.
NEO draws your item's picture for you, on the NEO mannequin, and it reads the name to choose the shape. Because the name contains "crown", the picture will be a crown. Other hat words it knows are "top", "cap", "beanie", "toque" and "halo"; anything else gets a hat with a brim. See Avatar items.
3. Describe it and set a price#
- In Description, write a line players will see on the item's page, such as
A crown fit for the winner of any obby. - In Price (Credits), enter
75. The form starts at 50; any whole number from 0 to 1,000,000 works, and 0 makes the item free.
When this hat sells for 75 Credits in the Marketplace, your 40% share is 30 Credits.
4. List it#
Choose List in the Marketplace.
The form clears and your hat appears in the grid below it, with its picture, name and price. It's on sale for every player right away.
If something is wrong, an error appears above the grid. The usual causes are an empty name, a name longer than 60 characters, or a name the filter doesn't allow.
5. See it as a player#
- Choose Back to NEO in the hub's sidebar (or Play in the top bar).
- Open the Marketplace and choose the Hats category.
- Set the sort to Newest to find your hat near the top. You can also type its name in Search the Marketplace.
- Choose your hat to open its page.
The page shows the picture, Hat · By and your name, the price, how many have sold, and your description. It's your own item, so if you try to buy it, NEO stops you with an error: creators can't buy their own items.
6. Share it#
Copy the address of your item's page (/items/<id>) and send it to friends. When a signed-in player opens it, they choose Buy, check Your balance and After this purchase in the Buy item dialog, and choose Buy for 75. The hat goes into their inventory, and Wear now puts it on.
7. Follow sales and earnings#
When someone buys your hat:
- Monetization in the Creator Hub lists the sale under Sales, with the buyer, the Price (75) and You earned (30), and a Status of
pending. - Pending on the same page, and in your Wallet, goes up by 30.
- The Dashboard's Sales · 7 days counts it, and the Revenue chart shows your 30 Credits on today.
Sixty days later the sale's status changes to available, and the 30 Credits move to Available. You can spend them on NEO, or cash them out once you have enough. See NEO Credits and earnings.
What you did#
- Listed a hat in the Marketplace from the Creator Hub.
- Used its name to choose how NEO draws it.
- Found it as a player, and learned where its sales and earnings appear.
Try an emote next: name one "Victory Cheer" and NEO draws the mannequin with both arms up.
